The Cat in the Hat

The debut of The Cat in the Hat in 1957 rekindled children's love of reading and introduced the world to a soon-to-be renown feline character. When asked about the title of the book, Dr. Seuss said, "cat" and "hat" were the first two rhyming words he found on the list of 223 elementary school words he used to write the book. Many whimsical tales followed in a similar style, and in the years since his passing, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, a.k.a. Theodor Seuss Geisel, inspires reading celebrations in our nation's schools.
