Four months before the debut of super heroine Wonder Woman from DC Comics, The Black Cat sauntered onto the comic book stage. Portrayed as a Hollywood starlet with a secret crime-fighting identity, her first nemesis was a tinsel-town director whom she suspected of being a Nazi spy (this was in 1941). Championed by Alfred Harvey of Harvey Comics, it was a popular wartime comic. Despite numerous attempts at a revival, the comic lasted only into the 1950s.
