Rodents in New York are a major problem for deli and bodega owners. In an article from the New York Times, one reporter finds the most effective tool in combating the infestation is not traps, poisons, or exterminators - it's cats. But animals of any kind are not allowed (under law) in establishments that serve food. Ironically, the fine is the same for a found rodent or cat. But deli owners insist without their cats, rats and mice would take over. It is interesting to see the first relationship that acquainted cats and humans still exists today.
