During the early 19oos, a literary magazine named The Black Cat, published from Boston, Massachusetts was a favorite among avid readers. The monthly magazine was "devoted to original, unusual, fascinating stories," and paid "nothing for the name or reputation of a writer, but the highest price on record for stories that are stories...". One featured writer was Ellis Parker Butler, who penned the tale Amos Hopstone. View a gallery of cover art here.
